On August 18, the “Talent in Hi-tech · Creating the Future” Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park — AI-Powered Technology Commercialization: Hands-on Session on Intelligent-Agent Tools was held at the Chengdu International Talent Port in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone. The event was open to postdoctoral researchers currently working or recently graduated, researchers, technology managers and representatives of service organizations from across the city, with the aim of promoting the deep integration of AI tools and technology commercialization.

The event was guided by the Chengdu Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, hosted by the Party-Mass Work Department of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Working Committee of the Communist Party of China, and organized by the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park.

Expert Insights: Clarifying AI’s Capabilities and Paths for Collaboration

In response to the practical challenges commonly faced by researchers, including large volumes of information, complex processes and the intertwining of professional judgment with administrative tasks, the event invited Ye Fei, a professor at the School of Information and Software Engineering of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, to deliver a special presentation.

Ye Fei has long conducted research into the frontiers of artificial intelligence. At the event, he focused on how AI can genuinely enter research and technology commercialization workflows. By linking AI capabilities with specific commercialization tasks, he introduced relevant tools and explained AI’s capability boundaries, task-decomposition methods and human-machine collaboration approaches. This helped participants understand what different tools can do, which parts of a workflow they are suited for, and which key judgments must still be made by researchers and technology commercialization professionals.

Hands-on Demonstration: Embedding AI throughout the Technology Commercialization Process

For high-frequency tasks in research and technology commercialization, the event demonstrated practical applications of AI in the preliminary screening of literature, patents and competing products; the summarization of industry information; the retrieval of policies and publicly available information; the refinement of descriptions of technological achievements; and the generation of promotional materials, first drafts of roadshow presentations and project task lists.

Using the industrialization of technological achievements as its central thread, the event further demonstrated how AI can be used to distill the value of achievements, assess technology readiness, match application scenarios, research target industries and customers, and analyze industrial chains and competing products. It also showed how to develop commercialization pathways, cooperation requirements, project implementation plans and external promotional materials, embedding previously separate AI tools into concrete technology commercialization workflows.

Chen Hongwei of Sinochem Southwest Research & Design Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. said, “The event’s presentation on using artificial intelligence to empower technology commercialization closely matched our research priorities and practical needs. It also created opportunities for us to connect with enterprises, universities and other resources, which will help further advance the implementation and engineering commercialization of research achievements.”

Li Yanling of the Second Research Institute of the Civil Aviation Administration of China said, “We work on AI foundation models, so this event closely matched our business needs. Our team focuses on putting foundation models into practice while serving and productizing them for civil aviation scenarios. The commercialization pathways discussed at the event, including joint research and development between research institutes and enterprises and providing operational services for airlines and airports, are closely related to our day-to-day work. Civil aviation scenarios have stringent data-security requirements, and using different foundation models without exposing sensitive data is a practical challenge. The event’s discussion of secure applications provided valuable inspiration.”

At the event, participants also exchanged views on the application of AI tools, the industrialization of research achievements and practical issues encountered in technology commercialization. They held in-depth discussions with the speakers in light of their own research priorities and commercialization needs.
